Waiting
‘Waiting’ derives from a place of innocence and optimism. This work aims to provide an insight into my mind, a search for stillness and a compelling appreciation of waiting for someone or something. The fast-paced nature of the everyday leaves few moments of utter calm and tranquillity. These images are unaltered by any socio-political motivations. There is no agenda. The work’s simplistic nature captures peace and signals the importance of slowing down, amplified through the static nature of photography.
The range of photographs and video is a commentary on the banal and hopes to express the idea of everyday moments, often missed or simply unnoticed. I intend to find a story within each individual image as well as collectively, supporting the narrative of the practice as a whole. There is no final outcome but simply an ongoing documentation. Unsolicited walks with no recognisable start or end point provided a way of constructing a body of work that may not always be stylistically coherent but, contextually served as imperative to each photograph. Through the images’ organic conception and transparent documentation of everyday life, I was able to capture what I believed to be the calming nature of waiting across a variety of scenarios.
